Exit-Emergency Light Inspections
Exit and Emergency Lighting Inspections are essential for ensuring your building remains safe and compliant during power outages or emergency evacuations. Properly functioning emergency lighting helps occupants safely exit a building when normal lighting fails, while illuminated exit signs clearly identify evacuation routes.

Inspection Requirements
According to NFPA 101 – Life Safety Code and NFPA 70 – National Electrical Code (NEC), emergency lighting systems should be:
- Inspected and function-tested monthly for a minimum of 30 seconds to verify proper operation.
- Load-tested annually for a minimum of 90 minutes to ensure battery-powered emergency lighting can provide illumination for the required duration.
- Checked to verify that exit signs remain illuminated, batteries are in good condition, lamps are functioning properly, and fixtures are free from damage or obstruction.
- Documented with inspection and testing records, which should be maintained for review by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) during inspections.
Regular inspections help identify failing batteries, damaged fixtures, and other issues before they become safety hazards, reducing the risk of non-compliance and helping protect employees, customers, and property.
