Clean Agent Fire Suppression

What are Clean Agent Fire Suppression Systems?

Clean Agent Fire Suppression Systems are specialized fire protection systems designed to quickly extinguish fires without causing damage to sensitive equipment or leaving behind residue. Unlike traditional water-based sprinkler systems, clean agent systems discharge a non-conductive, environmentally acceptable extinguishing agent that suppresses fire while helping protect valuable assets.

These systems are commonly installed in:

  • Data Centers
  • Server Rooms
  • Electrical & Control Rooms
  • Telecommunications Facilities
  • Medical Facilities
  • Museums & Archives
  • Financial Institutions
  • Industrial Control Rooms

Because clean agents leave no residue and are safe for electronic equipment, they help minimize downtime and reduce costly damage after a fire event.

How Often should Clean Agent Fire Systems be Inspected?

To help ensure your system remains operational and compliant with NFPA 2001 – Standard on Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems, clean agent suppression systems should be:

  • Visually inspected every month to verify the system is unobstructed, cylinders are in place, pressure gauges indicate normal operating pressure, and there is no visible damage or tampering.
  • Professionally inspected at least annually by a qualified fire protection company. During the annual inspection, technicians verify system components, control panels, detection devices, releasing mechanisms, cylinders, piping, alarms, and overall system operation.
  • Hydrostatically tested and serviced according to the cylinder manufacturer's requirements and applicable DOT regulations when required.
  • Inspected immediately after any system discharge, maintenance, or building modifications that could affect system performance.

Routine inspections help ensure your clean agent system will operate properly in the event of a fire while helping your facility remain code compliant and protecting your valuable equipment.
